What exciting things have we got planned?

In the FSU, we believe that-

  • Children should feel content
  • Children should feel resilient
  • Children should feel in control
  • Children should feel able to question
  •  Children should feel able to choose

The "Blue" Room - with role play, maths, construction, and small world areas as well as an interactive whiteboard and well stocked book corner

Every day the children have opportunities to play with friends or by themselves, read and listen to stories, play musical instruments, run around, ride bikes and scooters, climb, dress up, dig, build, draw, paint, glue, write, explore the natural world, ask questions, think about "BIG" issues with Phil (Philosophy) Bear, talk, laugh, use the computer, play with sand and water, make up stories, count, make friends, eat snack together, sing, plan what they want to do and have fun.

The Topsham FSU is a 56 place unit.

We have 30 full-time Reception places and 26 half day places for children of Nursery age.

The unit has 2 full-time teachers, 1 full-time Learning Support Assistant, 1 part-time Learning Support Assistant and a whole host of amazing volunteers!

We are very lucky to be able to offer the children a wonderful learning environment.

The children each have their own post pocket so they can write each other messages

The "Yellow" room houses a writing zone, painting area and creative workshop. There is also a discovery table with magnets, magnifying glasses and other scientific resources

Although we have designated areas to keep certain resources such as a writing zone and maths area, the children may choose to take things they need from these places and use them elsewhere.

Much of the learning that takes place in the FSU, does so outside. We are fortunate to have a lots of outside space and the children have free access to it throughout the day.
