Our house system
We have four teams each with children from FSU to Year 6 and a selection of staff. Siblings are in the same team and we ensure a fair balance of girls and boys, but otherwise the groups are chosen randomly. Each team has two house captains from Year 6 and all the team members meet a couple of times a term to get to know each other and have motivational discussions!
The children (and staff if they're REALLY good) can receive coloured tokens for their team by
- Doing something that exceeds expectations, e.g. being exceptionally helpful, thoughtful or kind;
- Showing that they are really persevering with something they find tricky;
- Having courage, for example, to do the right thing;
- Making big improvements in their work;
- Gaining an achiever's award.
On Friday morning's reward assembly, the token totals from the week are announced and the winning team displays their house colours on our cup. The totals are added to the running score.
At the end of the term, the team with the most tokens receives a treat such as a 'special day' with party games.
The Topsham children are not just 'semi-precious' to us, no! They are little gems! That's why we have created fitting team names with the children's input.
