The TWIGLETS After School Club
|
|
The Twiglets Club was formed in January 2001 for children who attend The Topsham School. The name Twiglets was chosen as each year group within the school is named after a different tree. The Club is run by a voluntary committee made up of parents and staff and is open on weekdays from 3.30pm to 5.30pm for children aged four to eleven years. There are currently 40 children on roll. | |
|
The children enjoy plenty of outdoor play and have a wide choice of indoor activities including construction toys, puzzles, craft materials, a soccer table and computer games. We also have themed weeks, for example circus skills, airborne and harvest, and speciality craft days. |

We provide a healthy snack such as wholemeal toast with a variety of toppings, and fresh fruit is always available. Sometimes we enjoy foods from other cultures such as Indian delicacies, pizzas and tropical fruit cocktails. The Club supports the school by taking part in many of their events, for example the Christmas Bazaar and the Summer Fayre.
We have recently had an Ofsted inspection and the strengths of the club were highlighted. Some of the comments made were as follows:
“Children play in a safe and secure environment and receive good care when unwell or injured”
“Children’s behaviour is exemplary and they treat each other with respect”
“Staff are very good role models, and children respond to their high expectations and positive approach”
At present we have the following committee members:
| Chairperson | - Tamsin Beauchamp |
| Treasurer | - Hayley Back |
| Secretary | - Janice Beaumont |
Tracy Pym and Christine Kitchener work as Playleaders.
I have been working at the Club for five years and thoroughly enjoy my role and involvement with the children.
