Autumn term 2008
It has been a really busy and exciting start to the Year. We really enjoyed the first topic of the year which was based upon ‘Ourselves’. It was great fun planning, setting up and using our Funnybones surgery and we have managed to diagnose many strange ailments! We particularly enjoyed the taste aspect of this topic, especially the beetroot smoothes we made using the beetroot we grew in our taste garden.
We have been helping the school by preparing things to sell at the monthly Slow Food Market. We made apple crumbles and have planted some spring flowering pots. We had wonderful visits from Lori from Shute Fruit Farm and Ian from Highfield Farm. Lori made Chocolate Pumpkin Truffles with us, which tasted lovely (we’ll be selling some at the next market!) and Ian brought his bread oven to school to make rolls with us, these would have been great with the pumpkin soup we made the week before.
In our Literacy we have been using our Story Chest to help us plan and create some fantastic stories in the Green Room. We are looking forward to our Traditional Stories topic later this term when we will start to write our stories in more detail. We have just started our Instructions topic, planning the sock puppets we will be making and how we can write our own set of instructions to record a message. Our topic for the rest of this term is Festivals. We are busy using our non-fiction books to find out about India and Diwali.
