Autumn term 2008

We are all looking forward to an exciting term in Years 5 and 6. We are studying World War II at the moment and the children are thoroughly enjoying finding out about the what life was like in Britain at this time and thinking about how it was different to their own lives. We are also looking at life in the local area especially in Exeter and surrounding areas during the Blitz. The children have imagined having to go into an Anderson shelter during the air raids. We have had great fun pretending to be evacuees being sent on trains and going to live in the homes of strangers.

At the beginning of the term, Hayley from Devon Learning Resources came into school and did workshops with both classes. The children had the opportunity to dress up in clothes, play games and look at a range of artefacts from the  1940s.

During our assembly, the children performed 1940s dances and sang some Vera Lynn songs, which they really enjoyed. We will be following recipes from 1940s to sample food from the era.

In Art, we will be looking at artists who were producing work during the first half of the twentieth century, focusing in Art Deco. We plan to do some 3D work based on these designs.

The children are working really hard and have had a lot of fun learning about life in Britain in the past.

We hope you enjoy looking at our photos.
